Curved Display + AI Character Box Prototype (Photos)

Prototype Details

We've built our first working prototype with a curved display. The form factor is smaller than we initially planned, which actually works better for the "quiet presence" concept. The device sits comfortably on a desk without demanding attention.

The curved display creates a more immersive viewing experience while keeping the overall footprint compact. This was a key design decision—we want presence without intrusion.

Display Testing

Testing different display technologies for the best balance of visual quality and power efficiency. The character needs to feel present but not demand attention. We're evaluating LCD, OLED, and e-ink options, each with different trade-offs.

Current prototype uses an LCD panel, but we're exploring OLED for better contrast and power efficiency. The challenge is finding the right balance between visual quality and battery life for a device meant to run 24/7.

Form Factor

The compact size was unexpected but welcome. Users don't want a large device taking up desk space. The smaller form factor actually enhances the "quiet presence" concept—the companion is there, but doesn't dominate the space.

User Testing

Early user feedback has been positive. People appreciate the non-intrusive nature. The companion feels present without being demanding. This validates our approach of prioritizing quiet presence over active interaction.

Next steps include refining the display technology and finalizing the enclosure design. We'll share more photos as the prototype evolves.
